Woman Hollering Creek by JR Vork

Woman Hollering Creek

Soles against bank
Skirt billows beneath
Damp from heat
Tears, down her cheek

Hand to empty womb
Her child, glassy eyes
… breath still
Floats, beyond dawn

Murder, they whisper
Mother, daughter
He left town last month
Mexico bound for another

She haunts this watery grave
In wind, a mile past farm
Restless, as mosquito bite
