Three Beers Past Midnight by Alan Meyrowitz

Three Beers Past Midnight

Between her strident diatribe
and final condemnation—
dignity’s death

So, he said of love decayed
and more recounted,
unlikely tales of burden
even for a drunkard grieving

and yet my glass reminded

there once had been a carnival
with mirrors of distortion,
in every one
some remnant of the truth
